For The Love of Art, Books and Paper

If you're someone who adores the tactile beauty of paper and the collection of art and ephemera, you're in good company. There's an indescribable joy in running your fingers over textured sheets, in savoring the smell of old books, and in discovering hidden treasures within Letter Press pages, vintage postcards,or faded love letters.

As a paper enthusiast, you're likely obsessed with the artistry of printed materials, from intricately designed stationery to exquisitely illustrated books, paper garlands, puppet theaters and gold foild bookmarks. Each piece tells a story, whether it's a well-worn sketchbook filled with scribblings and ideas or a greeting card too beautiful to pass on.

In a digital age where screens dominate, your appreciation for the tangible simplicity of the analog world and the stories of nature's flowers and hedgerows shines through.

So here's to the paper aficionados, the ones who understand that there's magic in every fold and beauty in every crease. May your love for paper continue to inspire creativity and wonder, preserving the art of print for generations to come.

Jemma Jamie Skidmore

Artist & Illustrator

In April 2021, my son was born, marking the most magical experience of my life. After enduring the isolation of COVID, motherhood brought a profound shift. We bid farewell to Vancouver, selling almost everything except for cherished art books and other paper treasures, and returned to the UK. It was undoubtedly one of the hardest things I have done.

In 2022, I launched Jemma Jamie from my parents' spare bedroom while working on my first illustrated picture book. Having spent years in the film industry, I found solace in the slow process of creating artworks and designing paper products. However, managing everything with a toddler proved daunting. Yet, I persuaded my administratively-minded sister, Lydia, that together, we could create wonderful things.

“The creative adult is the child who survived.”

– Ursula Le Guin

In essence, I aimed to craft extraordinary art books and good things for extraordinary individuals—people like myself and Lydia, brave (perhaps a bit crazy) enough to throw caution to the wind and embark on journeys across the world, encountering adventure and joy along the way. Yet, sentimental enough to hold onto every wonderful piece of paper art and storybook we find along the way."
