Solstice Sunrise Tree of Life Whimsical Folk Art – A3 Wall Print
Illustrated by Jemma Jamie Skidmore
I made this painting about three weeks after we moved back to England. It was a magical and exciting time we had sold everything and taken this great leap of faith. It was high summer in the Cotswolds, and the wheel of the year was in full rotation. I was fully back in the rhythm of the seasonal nature of life in the UK, surrounded by the nature, history, landscape, and birds I had missed so deeply during my time away.
This piece was a blend of all of that inspiration, and the willow china I had just thrifted for our new home which I think makes it the perfect light, bright print for a kitchen or bathroom.
The original painting is ultramarine gouache.

Gouache is pronounced “goo wash” and rhymes with squash. This paint has a long history once made with honey or tragacanth gum as binder, for Ancient Egyptian Painting, European illuminated manuscripts and Persian miniature .
Modern Gouache originates in eighteenth century France where a Larger percentage of binder were used, to enhance the opacity.
What is so special about gouache?

The beauty of Gouache is that it forms a luxurious thicker layer of paint on the paper surface and does not allow the paper to show through.
Jemma Art original artworks are created using a combination of high quality materials M.Graham & co. Artists Gouache, Holbein acrylic goulash. and Arches hot press pure cotton paper.

"Do whatever you please, follow your own star; be original if you want to be and don’t if you don’t want to be. Just be natural and gay and light-hearted and pretty and simple and overflowing and general and baroque and bare and austere and stylised and wild and daring and conservative, and learn and learn and learn. Open your mind to every form of beauty."
